Traitement des eaux usées hors zone à bâtir

Managing sewage outside building zones

Switzerland has an extensive sewage collection and treatment network that predominantly serves the population living in building zones. Outside these zones, and particularly in some of the country’s Alpine hamlets, many second homes discharge their sewage into individual septic tanks. But this solution is today no longer acceptable.

In a hamlet, to avoid having multiple sewage treatment installations, it would seem sensible to group together users in a communal sewage treatment project. However, the annual cost of this kind of project is often very high, while the dwellings concerned are used very infrequently. Users generally regard the resulting cost as unreasonable and are reluctant to participate in the project.

The hamlet of Bonatchiesse, near the Mauvoisin Dam in the upper Val de Bagnes, is today facing this problem. ALTIS Groupe SA, the company that manages sewage treatment in Val de Bagnes, is looking for a way to offer its users an efficient and economically acceptable communal solution that can be replicated and applied elsewhere.
