ODILE

ODILE

Irrigating hay meadows is a considerable challenge for farmers in mountainous areas, who have to move hoses and sprinklers to multiple locations on their land, a laborious task that is costly in terms of both time and money.

Kick-started by the BlueArk Challenge 2020, the ODILE project is a valuable decision-making tool for farmers. It takes the form of an app designed to limit water wastage in irrigation without reducing crop productivity. Moisture sensors placed in the ground feed the app a mass of data that determines the soil composition and the plant’s water needs. Using indicators obtained from static or dynamic measurements and forecasting models, the watering system is fully automated.

Meadow productivity is monitored on an ongoing basis by a satellite unit fitted with infrared sensors. The data collected has already demonstrated the advantages of the Odile system in comparison with crops that do not use this solution.

Project update

Currently, several farmers in Entremont are using the Odile solution.
